20-Year-Old Woman Remanded for Alleged Killing of Co-Wife in Kano
A Chief Magistrates Court in Kano has ordered the remand of 20-year-old Safiya Hussaini to a correctional facility pending trial on a culpable homicide charge. Safiya, who lives in Loko town of Takai Local Government Area, was arraigned for allegedly attacking her co-wife with a cutlass. The attack reportedly caused fatal injuries. The prosecution told the court it lacked jurisdiction to try culpable homicide cases and asked for two weeks to obtain legal advice from the state Ministry of Justice. Chief Magistrate Auwal Yusuf Sulaiman granted the request and adjourned the matter for further mention in two weeks.
