8 Critical Lessons from the Two-Week U.S.–Iran Ceasefire

The recent two-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran revealed more than a pause in hostilities. I saw how strategy, geography, and asymmetric tactics now shape modern warfare. It also exposed limits to U.S. military power and Iran’s resilience. The conflict showed that the U.S. cannot sustain a long fight with Iran without sparking a global energy crisis and domestic political fallout. Even the world’s strongest navy cannot safely force open the Strait of Hormuz. A blockade would cripple oil shipments and send shockwaves through food, transport, and industry. No nation is isolated from distant wars. Fuel prices in Nigeria surged sharply, and supply chains proved fragile. Energy disruptions anywhere can destabilize economies everywhere. For Nigeria, the crisis underscored a vital truth: local refining capacity and energy security are essential for national stability. Building our own power sources is no longer a luxury but a matter of survival.

I'm not convinced the ceasefire actually exposed any real weaknesses in U.S. military power—those limits seem overblown.

Next time, negotiators should map supply routes carefully and factor in asymmetric tactics to preserve any ceasefire gains.
