Lagos State Allocates ₦297m to Boost Scholarships and Adult Literacy

Lagos State Allocates ₦297m to Boost Scholarships and Adult Literacy

The Lagos State Government has allocated over ₦297 million to scholarships and adult literacy programmes. The commissioner for tertiary education announced this at a ministerial briefing marking the third year of the current administration. Adult literacy facilitators now earn ₦50,000 monthly, up from ₦25,000. Instructors and coordinators receive ₦60,000 each, doubled from ₦30,000. All stipends for 2025 have been fully disbursed after a thorough verification exercise. The state has also integrated digital learning tools and regular assessments to track progress. Undergraduate bursaries rose to ₦60,000 for 3,138 students, totaling over ₦188 million. Nigerian Law School scholars received ₦225,000 each, while postgraduate students got up to ₦450,000. A special scholarship now supports persons with disabilities and disadvantaged residents. Partnerships with private foundations reward top BECE scorers and outstanding Lagos indigenes, and automation ensures greater transparency.
