Why Nigeria’s Corruption Stalls Its Global Reputation

Nigeria has vast resources, a young population, and one of Africa’s largest economies. Yet it struggles with a credibility crisis caused by entrenched corruption and weak accountability. Procurement controversies, unresolved audit queries and the perception that powerful figures escape punishment have kept its rating flat. Despite high-profile anti-corruption agencies and repeated campaigns, public-sector integrity remains elusive. The message to investors and the international community is clear: Nigeria’s institutions still fall short of global standards. The real losers in this struggle are ordinary Nigerians, who face dwindling investment, higher costs and a weakened global standing.
