OPSS Rejects Claims of Soldier Abandonment and Motorist Extortion in Kwara
Headquarters Joint Task Force (North Central) Operation Savannah Shield says reports accusing its troops of abandoning their post in Yashikara and extorting motorists at Chikanda are false. The task force clarified it has no deployment in Yashikara and operates solely from the Forward Operating Base in Chikanda with full professionalism. OPSS also denied failing to respond to the May 25 attack on the Emir’s palace. According to the statement from Acting Media Information Officer Captain Jamilu Muhammed Yahaya, troops were alerted at 1:45 a.m. and promptly reached the scene, where they discovered three women and five children abducted and parts of the palace and vehicles burned. The statement emphasized that soldiers under Operation Savannah Shield maintain high discipline and never engage in extortion. It urged media outlets and the public to confirm reports through credible channels before publishing content that could mislead citizens or undermine troop morale. Operation Savannah Shield remains committed to safeguarding lives and property across the North Central region.
