Obasanjo Warns Unresolved Biafra Tensions Could Spark New Civil Conflict
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo cautioned that many issues that led to the Biafra war remain unaddressed. He spoke at his presidential library in Abeokuta while receiving a historical account of the Asaba massacre. The document chronicles the killing of civilians in Asaba during the Nigerian Civil War. Obasanjo said he could not detail the Asaba events because military operations there were under the late Murtala Muhammed’s command. He noted past questions about Muhammed’s role but insisted he was not in a position to comment. Obasanjo warned that without resolving these long-standing grievances, Nigeria risks another crisis.
