Residents of Fanga in Mashegu Local Government Area of Niger State say bandits attacked the town in broad daylight, killing an elderly man, injuring several people, including a minor, and abducting four residents and visitors. The attackers reportedly looted shops and fired as residents fled. Villagers who tried to pursue them were allegedly ambushed by another armed group waiting outside the community, leaving two young men critically injured. Residents said Fanga had previously paid the bandits ₦2 million and later ₦9 million in illegal levies, but the attacks continued. They are calling for a permanent security presence, alleging that the wider Gana district has become unsafe.
