Sowore Demands Judge’s Recusal, to Represent Himself in DSS Cyberbullying Trial
The trial of Sahara Reporters publisher Omoyele Sowore on alleged cyberbullying charges before the Federal High Court in Abuja stalled on Friday. Sowore informed Justice Mohammed Umar that his legal team refused to appear after a recent ruling and that he would defend himself pending a new team’s appointment. He also filed a motion for the judge’s withdrawal, citing bias and humiliation. Sowore invoked his constitutional right to choose his counsel and sought permission to move his recusal application in court. DSS counsel Akinlolu Kehinde SAN opposed the motion as an abuse of court process and urged the court to continue day-to-day hearings. Justice Umar adjourned the matter to June 15 for ruling on the recusal application and defence.
