Port Harcourt Students Unite for Menstrual Hygiene Day 2026
The Rivers State Chapter of the Chartered Institute of Social Work Practitioners joined with the Centre for Creative Development Strategies and local partners to mark Menstrual Hygiene Day on 26 May 2026 at the FVCA Auditorium in Port Harcourt. The theme was “Together for a Period Friendly World.” Around 150 young people attended, including secondary school girls, boys and university students. Participants took part in lively sessions on menstrual care, pain management and personal hygiene. Sanitary pads were distributed to reinforce healthy habits and boost confidence. The event also tackled period stigma and encouraged open dialogue. Attendees were trained to become menstrual hygiene advocates. They will carry the message into their schools and communities. The programme urged everyone—individuals, schools and community leaders—to promote menstrual health access and education so every girl can manage her period with dignity.
