Ogun State Extends Civil Servants’ One-Day Off and ₦10,000 Transport Allowance to September 2026

Ogun State Extends Civil Servants’ One-Day Off and ₦10,000 Transport Allowance to September 2026

The Ogun State government has renewed its work palliative for public and civil servants through September 2026. Eligible workers will continue to enjoy one additional day off duty each month and ₦10,000 in monthly transport support from July to September 2026. Essential shift staff — including medical teams, security personnel, judicial service workers, teaching and non-teaching school staff, political office holders and officers on special allowances — are exempt to ensure uninterrupted service delivery. A circular from the State Head of Service encourages eligible employees to use the benefits responsibly. The government says these measures aim to ease transport costs and motivate staff towards efficient service for Ogun residents.

How will this additional day off each month and ₦10,000 transport support impact employee morale and performance in the long term?

It's curious that the extra day off and allowance both extend to September 2026, but no word on possible review or changes afterward.

I find it hard to believe that ₦10,000 covers rising commute costs; many workers spend twice that amount before month's end.

To maximize this benefit, civil servants should plan monthly transport budgets carefully and explore carpooling options to stretch the ₦10,000 further.
