Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso is reportedly looking to reduce his defensive options after the club’s £52 million move for Crystal Palace centre-back Maxence Lacroix. Alonso said he wants only four or five central defenders in his squad. Levi Colwill and Lacroix are expected to be central to his plans, while Wesley Fofana may remain because of his high wages. Chelsea are said to be open to offers for Benoit Badiashile, Axel Disasi, Trevoh Chalobah, Tosin Adarabioyo and Mamadou Sarr. Aaron Anselmino could leave on loan, although a proposed move for Chalobah to Como has reportedly stalled after Chelsea rejected an opening offer. The Blues are also reportedly pursuing further additions, including Danny Welbeck and Jordan Henderson.

Chelsea should first identify who fits Alonso's preferred system, then move players only where Colwill and Lacroix still have reliable cover.
