IGP Directs Commissioners to Hold Regular Community Policing Town Halls

IGP Directs Commissioners to Hold Regular Community Policing Town Halls

The Inspector-General of Police has ordered all state Commissioners of Police to intensify community policing through regular town hall meetings and improved public accessibility. Speaking at an emergency conference at Force Headquarters, Abuja, the IGP emphasised that effective policing depends on trust, cooperation and active citizen participation. He outlined plans for collaboration with traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth organisations, market associations, transport unions, women’s groups and other community institutions. Commissioners have been instructed to share their contact details with recognised community leaders to boost communication, responsiveness and confidence in policing operations. The IGP stressed that community-driven intelligence is vital for combating crime and enhancing public safety. The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to a people-centred, transparent and accountable policing system anchored on partnership and mutual trust.
