Osun-Osogbo Festival 2026 Grand Finale Celebrates Yoruba Heritage

The 600-year-old Osun-Osogbo Festival reaches its grand finale today, August 7, at the UNESCO-listed Osun Sacred Grove in Osogbo. Organisers expect more than 500,000 local and international devotees for the celebration of Yoruba spirituality, art and culture. The day’s central ritual is the procession from the Ataoja’s Palace to the Osun Shrine. The Arugba, Princess Alimot Moredeke Ajoke Osunbunmi, will carry the calabash containing the community’s sacrificial offerings, symbolising the renewal of an ancient covenant of peace, protection and fertility. This year’s festival also includes a photography exhibition at the Ataoja’s Palace featuring visual stories by 23 contemporary Nigerian photographers. Visitors, diaspora tourists and content creators have filled the grove in white traditional outfits, while devotees gather at the riverbank to collect agbo, water believed by traditional worshippers to hold spiritual and healing significance.
