Ex-FA Chairman Bako Calls for NFF Board to Resign Over World Cup Failures
Former Sokoto State Football Association chairman Danladi Bako has called on the Nigeria Football Federation board, led by Ibrahim Gusau, to resign over what he described as poor leadership and “monumental failures.” Bako linked the call to the Super Eagles’ failure to qualify for the 2022 and 2026 FIFA World Cups, as well as the Super Falcons’ disappointing Women’s Africa Cup of Nations campaign. He argued that Nigeria’s problems stem from weak football administration, not government interference. Recalling his role in advocacy for more African World Cup slots in the early 1990s, Bako said it was troubling that Nigeria had missed two consecutive tournaments despite Africa’s expanded representation. “Technically, we banned ourselves from the last two World Cups by installing poor leadership,” he said.
