Court Orders Continued Hospital Care for Hammed Tajudeen Akanbi Amid Murder Trial
Justice A.T. Muyideen has directed that Hammed Tajudeen Akanbi be returned to hospital for ongoing medical treatment after his arraignment on conspiracy and murder charges. Akanbi was brought to court in an ambulance and pleaded not guilty to both counts. The judge expressed concern that correctional authorities failed to admit him at Ikoyi Correctional Centre due to his critical health condition. Earlier, the court noted that Akanbi was allegedly abandoned in an ambulance by police and prison officials. Justice Muyideen stressed that humanity must prevail and ordered that he remain at a medical facility for treatment. Bail applications were not heard as the Director of Public Prosecutions requested more time to file a response. Defendants’ counsel were advised to approach a vacation judge. The trial is now fixed for dates in November 2026.
