Seven Killed in Suspected Herders’ Raid on Benue Border Village
At least seven residents of the Channel One community in Logo LGA, Benue State, were killed late Sunday when gunmen on motorcycles stormed the settlement along the Arufu–Wukari Road. Witnesses say the attackers opened fire around 11pm, forcing many families to flee for safety. A community leader named Joseph Anawah confirmed six fatalities and listed victims by name, including Akor Gwakyaa and Aondoungwa Michael. The Local Government chairman also reported seven deaths and said four others were wounded. Several critically injured survivors are receiving treatment in Anyiin and Ugba towns. Residents allege the gunmen operate from Shaor, a deserted village flagged in previous security reports. Community leaders are calling on Benue, Nasarawa and Taraba authorities to mount joint clearance operations, dislodge the suspected marauders and secure border settlements in the Logo area.
