Falconets Secure 2026 U20 Women’s World Cup Spot Despite Malawi Loss
Nigeria’s U20 girls have booked their place at the 2026 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in Poland after edging Malawi 3-2 on aggregate. A solid 2-0 win in Ikenne, highlighted by an own goal and a strike from Kindness Ifeanyi, proved decisive despite a 2-1 defeat in Lilongwe. The hosts struck early to level the tie but the Falconets held firm. In the 62nd minute, substitute Precious Oscar won and converted a loose ball to restore Nigeria’s aggregate lead. The team then saw out the remaining minutes with composure. The squad expressed gratitude to Nigeria’s High Commissioner in Malawi, Ambassador Ibrahim Miringa, and his staff for their support. The U20 finals run from 5 to 26 September in Poland.
