Toddler Dies After Being Left in Car During France Heatwave

A three-year-old boy was found dead in his family’s parked car at around 7pm on June 24 in Saint-Gratien, Val-d’Oise, during a record heatwave that saw temperatures reach 44°C. According to French media, the child had told his parents he wanted to nap in his room. They searched there first and only realised he was missing about 45 minutes later when they discovered him in cardiac arrest inside the hot vehicle. A passing bus driver heard the mother’s scream and began CPR until paramedics arrived. Police have launched an investigation into how the toddler gained access to the car. This tragedy follows another similar fatal incident earlier this week in a different region of France.
