UGIU Refutes Itsekiri ‘Founding’ Claims on Uvwie Communities

UGIU Refutes Itsekiri ‘Founding’ Claims on Uvwie Communities

The Uvwie General Improvement Union (UGIU) has challenged recent assertions by some Itsekiri individuals that they founded four key communities in Uvwie LGA. Led by Chief Hope Erute, the union warned that Uvwie’s peaceful nature should never be taken for weakness. In a press briefing, UGIU presented historical and legal records showing that communities like Ugbenuowhoru, Ugbomro, Okwatata, and Iteregbi are integral parts of the Uvwie kingdom. The union detailed migration patterns, maternal ties, and past court judgements to counter the narrative shared at the Itsekiri Ghigho Aghofen festival. UGIU urged the Delta State Government and security agencies to address these inciting claims. The union called on all parties to pursue peace and mutual respect, focusing energy on community development rather than reviving old disputes.

True talk – we go gather elders, check oral records and calmly discuss these claims face to face.

I'm skeptical we should dismiss Itsekiri ties so quickly; maybe deeper research is needed.

The timing of UGIU's statement feels tied to local politics more than actual historical evidence.

I'm not convinced we should dismiss all Itsekiri narratives; oral histories often overlap across regions.

To uphold Uvwie's peaceful nature, local historians should collaborate on shared archives to verify founding claims.
