Arewa Youth Assembly Calls for Impeachment of Ogun and Enugu Governors Over PGF Leadership Clash
Arewa Youth Assembly has urged the Ogun and Enugu State Houses of Assembly to start impeachment proceedings against Governors Dapo Abiodun and Peter Mbah. The group accuses the two of plotting a “palace coup” within the Progressive Governors’ Forum that could undermine President Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid. They claim the leadership tussle began when some governors tried to replace PGF chairman Hope Uzodimma with Governor Mbah during a meeting at the Ogun State Government Lodge. While the forum’s director-general has dismissed these reports, a separate vote of confidence backs Uzodimma. At a press briefing in Abuja, the Assembly’s spokesperson warned this move echoes the split that foiled former President Jonathan’s bid in 2015. They described Uzodimma as a unifying figure vital to keeping the ruling party stable ahead of next elections. The Arewa youths called on the state legislatures to act swiftly, arguing that the alleged coup threatens the South’s agreed term rotation and could destabilise the ruling party. Neither governor has officially responded to these demands.
