JAMB Drops Mathematics Requirement for Select University Courses
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has announced that Mathematics is no longer mandatory for admission into certain university programmes. During a recent interview on national television, spokesperson Fabian Benjamin explained that the waiver applies only to courses where maths skills are not essential. He cited examples such as Hausa, Arabic and Christian Religious Studies as programmes now open to candidates without a credit pass in Mathematics. Benjamin added that admission requirements are set each year by universities and stakeholders under the leadership of the Minister of Education. This adjustment is intended to align Nigeria’s education system with global standards and to reflect the specific skill needs of different fields of study.
