Army Recovers Remains of Couple Slain En Route to Imo Wedding
In April 2022, Master Warrant Officer (rtd.) Linus Musa Audu and Lance Corporal Gloria Mathew were abducted along the Ubaha-Orsu axis in Imo State while travelling to their traditional wedding. They were later killed by suspected IPOB/ESN elements. On April 24, 2026, troops of the 82 Division, supported by other security agencies, launched a clearance operation in the same area. Despite coming under heavy ambush fire, the soldiers pressed on and discovered shallow graves believed to contain the couple’s remains. The remains were exhumed for forensic examination. Military sources say DNA tests will be used to confirm identities before arranging full military honors for the final burial, honoring the fallen personnel’s service and sacrifice.
