Femi Falana Calls for Equal Burial Leave for All Prisoners

Human rights lawyer Femi Falana has urged the justice system to grant every detainee temporary release to attend family burials. Speaking on Sahara TV, he noted that high-profile suspects like Nasir El-Rufai have received court-approved leave for funerals, while ordinary inmates are often denied the same consideration. Falana argued that compassion and fairness must guide judicial decisions, regardless of an individual’s status. He invited anyone aware of a prison inmate facing the loss of a parent to inform him so he can seek equal treatment through the courts.

Perhaps introducing a clear application process and a reasonable cap on leave days could balance prisoners' rights with security concerns.
