Police, Security Experts to Develop Roadmap for Safer 2027 Elections

The Nigeria Police Force and Lenders Consult International say they will develop a security roadmap for the 2027 general elections, focusing on preventing electoral violence and protecting voters, officials, candidates and election materials. The plan will be discussed at the 2026 Conference and Retreat for Senior Police Officers, scheduled for September 21 to 23 in Owerri, Imo State. Senior police officers, security experts and government representatives are expected to examine intelligence-led policing, technology and coordination among security agencies. Organisers say the conference will produce practical recommendations to improve police readiness before, during and after the elections. They also urged Nigerians to support efforts to maintain public safety and order.

The plan should include clear responsibilities, early warning channels for violence, and regular public updates so people know what protections exist.
