Ambassador Nwiya Jnr Alleges Bias and Corruption in NDEIS Trademark Battle
Ambassador Kenule Nwiya Jnr says the Trademarks Registry has shown bias, intimidation and corruption in the fight over the “Niger Delta Economic and Investment Summit” trademark. He registered the mark in 2023, met all conditions and faced no objections, yet still awaits his final certificate. Through his lawyers, he asked the Registrar to withdraw an acknowledgment given to the newly formed Niger Delta Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Trade, Mines and Agriculture (NDCCITMA). Nwiya insists the chamber did not exist until 2025 and should not have been allowed to file for a name already accepted two years earlier. He claims the Registry has ignored his petition and that unofficial channels have been used to intimidate his team. He warns that legal action and public protests could follow if the dispute is not resolved. NDCCITMA, meanwhile, is planning its own summit under the same name in Port Harcourt.
