Delta High Court Remands Ex-ASP Nuhu Usman and Team Over Public Execution of Ogidi

A High Court in Asaba has ordered dismissed police officer ASP Nuhu Usman and four other former officers to be remanded at Ogwashi-Uku Correctional Centre. They appeared in court on June 1, charged with the extrajudicial killing of suspect Mene Ogidi in Effurun on April 26. A widely shared video showed Ogidi handcuffed and pleading for his life before he was shot. The Inspector General of Police approved their dismissal and prosecution following public outcry. Ogidi had been detained for allegedly attempting to waybill a loaded Beretta pistol. He was seen in the viral footage offering to lead officers to the person who sent him the parcel before he was shot. The court has adjourned the case and will schedule the next hearing in the coming weeks.
