16-Year-Old Boko Haram Member Flees Camp, Surrenders to Troops in Borno
A 16-year-old family member of a suspected Boko Haram terrorist voluntarily surrendered to soldiers of Operation Hadin Kai at the Forward Operating Base in Pulka, Gwoza LGA, Borno State on June 14, 2026. He escaped from a Boko Haram enclave in Chikide, Mandara Mountains. The teenager told troops that shortages of basic necessities and relentless military pressure drove him to flee. When he presented himself, he carried 12 bars of detergent and a wristwatch. After initial screening and documentation, he was placed in military custody for further procedures. His defection adds to a series of recent disengagements as troops continue counter-insurgency operations in the North-East.
