Nationwide Outcry as 26-Year-Old Physiotherapist Found Dead at Minister’s Residence

Mary Habila, a 26-year-old physiotherapist from Kaduna State, was found dead at the official residence of Minister of Works David Umahi in Ebonyi State on June 27, 2026. Her sudden death has sparked nationwide demands for a transparent and independent inquiry into how she came to be deployed to the minister’s home. Officials say Habila was providing physiotherapy services at the residence. Conflicting accounts have emerged about the events leading up to her death. The Ebonyi State Police Command has launched an investigation and ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. Activist Omoyele Sowore has called for a coroner’s inquest, noting reports that Habila was discovered with blood at her mouth. Public interest remains high as Habila’s family prepares for her burial in Kaduna. Many Nigerians and civil society groups insist that all forensic procedures be completed before any funeral rites. The official autopsy report and police findings are now eagerly awaited before further action is taken.
