Opta Supercomputer Backs Man Utd, Liverpool and Villa for Champions League Spots

Opta Supercomputer Backs Man Utd, Liverpool and Villa for Champions League Spots

Manchester United’s 2–1 win over Brentford has put them within sight of a Champions League return after two seasons away. Under interim boss Michael Carrick, United have surged to third, trailing only Manchester City and Arsenal. With just four games left, a top-four finish looks increasingly likely. Data from Opta’s supercomputer predicts that City and Arsenal are safe, and it gives United, Liverpool and Aston Villa over 97% odds to claim the remaining qualification places. That said, a Europa League triumph for Villa could open a sixth spot for another club, setting up a late-season battle for that final Champions League berth.

It seems odd to trust Opta's model after only four games remaining, especially given United's inconsistent history.

I'm not convinced Villa can maintain momentum when tougher fixtures come. They've looked shaky at both ends recently.

Teams need to keep focus, abeg no carry last in these last four games if they want top-four.
