Ejiofor Demands Probe Into Alleged Police Shooting of Traders in Onitsha

Human rights lawyer Ifeanyi Ejiofor has called for an independent investigation into an alleged police shooting at Ogbo-Ogwu Head Bridge Market in Onitsha, Anambra State. He said reports indicate that a trader was allegedly shot after being pursued by police officers while leaving the market with a carton of goods. The incident reportedly sparked a protest, with further allegations of indiscriminate shooting, injuries and deaths. Ejiofor urged the Inspector-General of Police and the Anambra State Police Command to identify any officers involved and ensure accountability where wrongdoing is established. He also called for scrutiny of allegations that traders face harassment, arrests and extortion by officers operating in the market.
