Lagos Lawyer Petitions PSC Over Alleged Misconduct by AIG Jimoh Moshood and Others

Lagos Lawyer Petitions PSC Over Alleged Misconduct by AIG Jimoh Moshood and Others

A Lagos lawyer has petitioned the Police Service Commission, asking it to investigate AIG Jimoh Moshood, CP Fidelis Ogarabe Ndubuisi and ACP Mohammed Usman over their handling of a criminal case involving businessman Hammed Tajudeen Akanbi. The petition alleges abuse of office, media trial, criminal defamation and violations of the constitutional presumption of innocence. It says Akanbi was declared wanted without prior invitation, despite earlier police engagements and ongoing court challenges. The lawyers also claim he suffered reputational damage, destruction of property and humiliating treatment after his arrest. They allege that his image was circulated online while he was in custody. Among other demands, the petition wants the PSC to set up an independent disciplinary panel, review the officers’ actions and impose sanctions if they are found culpable.

Allegations are one thing, but it would help to hear the other side before conclusions start flying.

The PSC should review the records, hear all parties, and release a straightforward decision so public trust is not damaged further.
