Enugu Police Seize 195 Vehicles in Number Plate Enforcement

Enugu Police Seize 195 Vehicles in Number Plate Enforcement

Police operatives in Enugu State have impounded 195 vehicles for breaching the nationwide ban on unregistered or improperly plated cars. Commissioner of Police Mamman Giwa personally led the operation. He said the seized vehicles included unregistered cars, those with covered, defaced, obscured, unauthorized plates, and vehicles carrying only one instead of two number plates. Vehicle owners will be charged and prosecuted under the National Road Traffic Regulations. The command pledged to sustain the enforcement and urged all motorists to comply with vehicle registration and plate regulations. The Inspector-General of Police has directed state commands to strictly enforce this ban, citing security risks posed by vehicles involved in criminal activities.

Seizing nearly 200 vehicles seems excessive if some plates were just temporarily covered rather than completely unregistered.

I'm not convinced this strict approach will actually reduce illegal taxi operations without addressing demand for cheap rides first.

Local motorists could avoid fines by ensuring plate renewals stay up to date and checking for any new state enforcement guidelines.
