Simon Okeke on Serving Nigeria: From Biafra Intelligence to State Police Reform
At the 2026 Law Dinner in Awka, former PSC chairman Simon Okeke traced his patriotic journey from leading military intelligence under Ojukwu during the Biafran war to arranging the charter that brought Ojukwu home from exile and witnessing the historic welcome at Ikeja Airport. Okeke then described rebuilding his career in real estate as a founding partner of Knight Frank & Rutley (Nig) after the war. He later chaired the Police Service Commission (2001–2006) before stepping down to allow his team’s renewal. He highlighted three major legacies: expanding Deputy Inspector General roles to cover all zones, proposing state police to strengthen security, and creating world-first guidelines for monitoring police conduct during elections. He warned that an overreaching judiciary now threatens democracy and called on institutions to uphold integrity.
