Lagos Deploys Swamp Buggy to Clear Drains in Ogombo, Awoyaya and Iponri
The Lagos State Government has deployed a swamp buggy and other drainage equipment to clear and widen flood channels in Ogombo, Awoyaya, Iponri, and Gbetu/Iwerekun near Ajah after recent heavy rainfall. The Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources said the work includes desilting and channelisation of major outfalls to help storm water drain faster. Similar interventions are planned for other flood-prone areas across the state before the peak of the rainy season. Residents in the affected communities said the early clearing of canals helped water recede faster and called for year-round maintenance. The ministry also urged councils, estates, and residents to clear tertiary drains and stop dumping waste in drainage channels.
