Pep Guardiola Linked with Surprise Move to Manage Italy

Pep Guardiola Linked with Surprise Move to Manage Italy — 1 of 3
1 / 3

Pep Guardiola is reportedly the leading candidate to replace Gennaro Gattuso as Italy’s head coach. The Azzurri failed to qualify for the 2026 World Cup after losing a penalty shootout to Bosnia & Herzegovina. Their exit prompted the resignations of the FIGC president and delegation chief. Despite having a year left on his Manchester City deal, Guardiola is said to be open to the challenge. He would be only Italy’s second foreign coach and the first since the 1960s. Guardiola brings 40 major trophies from Barcelona, Bayern Munich and City. His appointment would send a clear signal of Italy’s intent to return to the top.

Focusing on rebuilding the squad and investing in youth might matter more than a high-profile manager.
