Lai Mohammed Says Boko Haram Killed More Muslims, Debunks Christian Genocide Claims
At a student forum in the UK, former Information Minister Lai Mohammed dismissed reports of a Christian genocide in Nigeria. He explained that Boko Haram began by targeting Muslims who embraced Western education. Early victims were mostly Muslims, he said, and attacks on Christians came later to draw more attention. Mohammed also noted that banditry affects people of the same ethnic and religious backgrounds. He argued that Nigeria’s security issues are complex and not aimed at any religious group. He urged more balanced public communication to challenge the narrative of religious persecution and highlighted Nigeria’s tradition of tolerance.
