UEFA Considers Legal Action Against FIFA Over Scrapped World Cup Rights Plan
UEFA is considering legal action against FIFA over a proposed plan to sell shares in the commercial rights to major tournaments, including the men’s and women’s World Cups and the Club World Cup. The proposal, known as FIFA Forward Enterprise, faced opposition from UEFA, CONCACAF and the AFC. UEFA’s 55 member associations reportedly warned that they could boycott FIFA competitions if the plan went ahead. FIFA later withdrew the proposal, citing divisions within football. However, UEFA has reportedly asked FIFA and potential investors to preserve all documents and electronic records linked to the failed plan while it considers possible legal, arbitration or regulatory action.
