Why Blaming Colonialism for the “Olodo Uprising” Misses the Point
I disagree with the claim that social media algorithms are a modern form of colonialism driving Nigerians toward useless content. Before social media, most of us already preferred light entertainment like Nollywood films, Telemundo or African Magic over educational documentaries. Algorithms simply reinforce existing tastes by feeding us more of what we click on. Globally, tech influencers get millions of views because audiences are interested in their niche. Here, we choose skits over tutorials. Instead of blaming external forces, we should own our viewing habits and demand more diverse content.
