Lagos Igbo Community Reaffirms Leadership and Calls for Internal Unity

Lagos Igbo Community Reaffirms Leadership and Calls for Internal Unity

Chief Dr. Sunday Udeh, President General of the Igbo Speaking Community in Lagos, has addressed recent social media controversies involving key leaders. He clarified that, under the community constitution, the President and Executive are the custodians of leadership and denied any claims of disownment by the Board of Trustees. Udeh praised contributions from Chief Solomon Ogbonna and Eze Chika Nwokedi but urged all stakeholders to respect their defined roles and avoid using the community’s name externally without approval. He stressed that no member has ever been formally disowned and that disputes should be settled within the association. He reminded members that the Executive Committee holds authority over suspensions, appointments, and certificate issuance. He also called for patience while the committee reorganizes the Ndi Eze council, youth wing, and women’s wing to improve efficiency. Highlighting the example of Chief Sunday Eze, Udeh appealed for cooperation and peaceful conduct, emphasizing that lasting unity depends on resolving differences privately and upholding constitutional governance.

While unity sounds promising, sidelining other voices risks repeating the same leadership issues.
