Peter Obi Blames Leadership Failure for Abduction of UTME Candidates in Benue

Peter Obi has condemned the abduction of students sitting for the UTME in Benue State. He called the attack a disturbing sign of Nigeria’s deepening security crisis. He described the incident as heartbreaking and a damning indictment of failed leadership. Obi warned that rising violence against young Nigerians could further undermine the country’s already low tertiary graduation rate, now at about 1% compared to 13% in Indonesia and 10% in South Africa. The former Anambra governor urged authorities to prioritise the safety of students over political interests. “A nation that abandons its youth abandons its future,” he said, calling for urgent and decisive action to protect exam candidates.
