Owen Calls £145m Barcola Fee Extortionate as Liverpool Seek Salah Replacement

Owen Calls £145m Barcola Fee Extortionate as Liverpool Seek Salah Replacement — 1 of 3
1 / 3

Former Liverpool striker Michael Owen has urged the club not to pay Paris Saint-Germain's reported £145 million asking price for Bradley Barcola. Liverpool are searching for a replacement after Mohamed Salah's departure to Trabzonspor. Barcola has emerged as a leading target, although Yan Diomande and Ibrahim Mbaye have also been linked with the club. Owen said the proposed fee was “eye-watering” for a player yet to prove himself in the Premier League. He argued that Liverpool's publicly known need for a top forward could force them to pay a premium, but suggested Jarrod Bowen would have been a more sensible option. Salah leaves a huge gap after scoring 257 goals and providing 123 assists in 442 appearances across nine years for Liverpool.

Would Barcola at that reported fee genuinely solve Liverpool's post-Salah problem, or is the price being driven mainly by PSG's position?

Is the reported £145m based on confirmed interest, or just an early negotiating figure?

Replacing Salah was always going to be expensive, but £145m sets a huge expectation before Barcola has even arrived.

Owen may have a point on the fee, yet Liverpool cannot expect PSG to sell a leading target cheaply just because they need a replacement.

Liverpool should set a firm valuation, explore alternatives, and avoid letting the urgency after Salah's departure dictate the whole deal.
