A cleric’s reported remarks about the 2023 Muslim-Muslim ticket have renewed concerns about religious inclusion in Nigerian politics. I believe Christian-majority states such as Ondo and Ekiti that supported Tinubu should reflect on the outcome. In my view, the comments suggest that some supporters of the ticket do not regard Christians as equals. Some Christians and Muslims voted against Tinubu in those states in 2023, but I do not think the turnout was strong enough.
