Beheading of Oyo State Teacher Reveals Nigeria’s Failure to Protect Educators
Human rights lawyer Sir Ifeanyi Ejiofor describes the brutal killing of mathematics teacher Michael Oyedokun as a public execution of the nation’s conscience. Oyedokun was abducted from Community High School, Esiele, and beheaded by jihadist terrorists despite having no link to conflict. His only “crime” was showing up to teach and mentor young minds. Ejiofor warns that turning schools into slaughter grounds is a national tragedy. He urges the federal and Oyo State governments, and all security agencies, to arrest and prosecute everyone involved in this atrocity. He highlights how neglect and poor treatment of teachers undermine Nigeria’s future. Teachers are nation-builders, he says, and failing to protect them is like preparing the funeral of our civilisation.
