Lawal Urges Coach Chelle to Blood Young Talent Ahead of AFCON 2027

Lawal Urges Coach Chelle to Blood Young Talent Ahead of AFCON 2027

Former Super Eagles midfielder Garba Lawal has urged head coach Eric Chelle to prioritise integrating fresh players into the national squad as Nigeria prepares for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. Nigeria will contest the Unity Cup in London this May against Zimbabwe, India and Jamaica, before facing Poland and Portugal in June. Lawal says these friendlies offer the perfect platform to test emerging talents and begin phasing out ageing figures. Speaking on Brila FM, Lawal emphasised that building a balanced squad now will ensure the Eagles enter AFCON qualifiers with both youth and experience.

With the Unity Cup coming in London this May, do you think Coach Chelle should prioritise new talent over experienced players right now?

Would you prefer Coach Chelle to rotate young players into the starting lineup or give them bench minutes first?

Fresh legs are exciting, but mixing in veterans gives the team needed calm under pressure.

Lawal's suggestion sounds promising, but integrating fresh faces quickly might disrupt team chemistry before AFCON qualifiers even begin.

I get say Lawal wants young guns, but senior players bring mentorship and stability that Nigeria still needs in these friendlies.

Perhaps combining a core of experienced midfielders with two or three promising youngsters during the Unity Cup will test balance without risking overall performance.
