NSCDC Cracks Rail Vandalism Ring, Seven Arrested
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has uncovered a sophisticated criminal ring that vandalised and recycled key national infrastructure. Officials launched the operation after a viral video exposed the destruction of rail tracks along the Kaduna–Kano corridor. The corps’ Special Intelligence Squad traced the syndicate to Inner Galaxy Steel Company in Birnin Yero, where stolen rail materials were compressed into scrap. The scrap was then moved to Aba, Abia State, and recycled into iron rods and nails. Seven suspects, including company officials, scrap dealers and weighbridge operators, were arrested. Five additional suspects were arrested over vandalism along the Kaduna–Abuja rail line in Gwagwada. Recovered exhibits include railway tracks, sleepers, NNPC and water board pipes, and machinery used to process stolen materials. The Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation praised the NSCDC for recovering large quantities of hidden national assets.
