‘Life in Libya Was Harsh’—329 Stranded Nigerians Return to Kano

‘Life in Libya Was Harsh’—329 Stranded Nigerians Return to Kano

The National Emergency Management Agency in Kano received 329 stranded Nigerians back from Agadez, Niger Republic. They arrived in six buses at Malam Aminu Kano International Airport. Evacuated through a voluntary repatriation by the federal government, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the International Organization for Migration, the group included 165 men, 72 women and 92 children from Kaduna, Jigawa, Kano, Borno and Katsina states. They received food and medical attention before onward transfer to their home states. Officials urged returnees and other Nigerians to avoid irregular migration and to warn others of its dangers. Mrs Fatima Sani and Mrs Saihatu Idris described theft, violence and harsh living conditions in Libya. Both women appealed for government grants to help them rebuild their lives and support their families.
