Alex Iwobi Honoured on 2026 Football Black List

Alex Iwobi Honoured on 2026 Football Black List

Fulham FC midfielder Alex Iwobi has been named to the 2026 Football Black List. This prestigious roll of honour spotlights the most influential Black figures in British football, with backing from the Premier League. Iwobi earned his place thanks to significant off-field work through Project 17, which drives community development and youth empowerment. The Football Black List was founded in 2008 by Leon Mann and Rodney Hinds to celebrate individuals of African and Caribbean heritage making a difference in the sport. He will be recognised alongside fellow honourees at a ceremony in Westminster on April 14. The former Arsenal star is currently with the Nigeria national team as they prepare for friendlies against Iran and Jordan.

I hesitated at first, but his charity initiatives do seem most impressive. That recognition might amplify his voice across British football circles.

It's notable that the Premier League supports this list, yet broader awareness of these honourees still seems limited beyond football headlines.

E dey feel like tokenism if no concrete steps follow this recognition for Black players off the pitch.

Local clubs can leverage Iwobi's role model status to launch community programmes that nurture young talent and foster lasting change.
