Anambra Police Mobilises POCACOV for Community-Based Cultism Prevention
The Anambra State Police Command has charged its POCACOV coordinators to deepen grassroots engagement in fighting cultism and other social vices. A strategic meeting in Awka brought together area and divisional coordinators to plan community outreach and stakeholder advocacy. SP Tochukwu Ikenga explained that this proactive, non-kinetic policing approach aims to prevent crime, strengthen community resilience, and enhance public safety across the state. The Command stressed collaboration with traditional rulers, religious bodies, schools, youth and women groups, market associations, and civil society organisations. Coordinators were directed to intensify sensitisation campaigns against cultism, substance abuse, cybercrime, domestic violence, and bullying. Ahead of the planned visit of the National POCACOV Coordinator, activities include town hall meetings, school outreach programmes, media advocacy, youth mentorship, and stakeholder dialogues. Emphasising that effective security goes beyond enforcement, the police reaffirmed their commitment to building public trust and encouraging residents to volunteer timely information. They urged all communities to join in promoting peace and collective responsibility in crime prevention.
