Nigeria’s AbleBooks Initiative Bags $10,000 at Global Moonshot Learning Awards

AbleBooks Initiative has won the Learning category at the Moonshot Awards. The Nigerian education project received a $10,000 equity-free grant for its inclusive learning solutions. The Moonshot Awards celebrate young innovators tackling United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. This year’s ceremony in New York drew entries from over 100 countries. AbleBooks was the only Nigerian organization among the winners. Founded by Aanuoluwapo Omoleye, AbleBooks designs storybooks and materials for children with disabilities. It uses sign language, large print and simplified text to improve access for deaf and other learners. Beyond the grant, winners gain mentorship, global exposure and membership in a network of changemakers. This recognition highlights Nigeria’s growing role in youth-led innovation and inclusive education.

Great achievement, but I'm not convinced awards automatically lead to real classroom improvements without solid follow-up.
