Official Letter Alleges Sexual Harassment and Unfair Demotion at NAN

Official Letter Alleges Sexual Harassment and Unfair Demotion at NAN

A letter from a former NAN staffer has surfaced, accusing a senior official of persistent sexual harassment against Miss Ogunola Folashade Adunni. The complaint was addressed to the Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria, Ali Muhammad Ali, by Dr Femi Ogunshola. Miss Ogunola served as a casual employee in the Accounts Department after her NYSC year. She reportedly rejected repeated advances from a senior colleague. In response, she was placed on Grade Level 5 Step 2—below her qualifications—while other casual staff received higher grades. Several internal appeals, including contacts with the President’s Special Adviser on Information and the agency’s leadership, yielded no resolution. The open letter urges the Managing Director to investigate the allegations, review Miss Ogunola’s placement, and restore fairness and transparency at NAN.

What impact do you think this letter will have on NAN's reputation or on how similar cases are handled?

True, this letter might dent NAN's credibility and push them to review their handling of harassment claims.

It's striking how the letter outlines both harassment and demotion without any mention of prior investigations or responses.

Why jump to no investigation? Could they have handled it internally without spelling it out?

I worry shifting focus to unofficial letters might overshadow necessary HR processes and evidence gathering at NAN.

NAN management should promptly set up an independent panel to investigate these claims and ensure transparent follow-up measures.
